Good news for our fans in Christchurch. We’re now booked to perform Funny Chokers at the Aurora Centre, Burnside High School on Saturday 17th November. We look forward to returning to the city after having to cancel our Greatest Hits show there last year because of the devastating earthquakes damaged the city venue where we usually perform. We will post ticketing details on our website closer to the show date.

Samoa Victim Support Group Fundraiser

On Friday the 6th of July we’ll be performing a special Funny Chokers show in Wellington with all proceeds going to the Samoa Victim Support Group whom we visited when we were in Samoa in February earlier this year. We were privileged to meet the President of the Samoa Victim Support Group, Mrs Lina Chang and to be introduced to the children in their care, most of whom were victims of sexual and physical abuse. Providing suitable and adequate accommodation is now an issue with many of the victims being ostracised by their own families for speaking out. And with each successful prosecution of an abuser, more and more victims are seeking the the SVSG’s support meaning more strain on already limited resources the Non Governmental Organisation receives from donors and volunteers. We are keen to do what we can to help. Hope you’ll be able to help us help those who’re providing much needed support for the most vulnerable in our home country. On the road again

Wonderful to be back on the road again with Funny Chokers. The show in Whanganui last night was great. It’s very exciting standing on the side of the stage listening to the buzz of the audience as they wait for the lights to go down and the show to start. And we knew the show was going to be a great one from the way the audience started clapping along to the opening number - Stan Walkers version of We Will Rock You. We missed out taking Greatest Hits to Whanganui last year but made up for it with Funny Chokers last night. We look forward to Taupo and Rotorua this weekend and to every other show after that.

Wow! A great big THANK YOU to the near capacity crowd of 2,300 people who turned out to see Funny Chokers at The Civic Theatre in Auckland last Saturday. Our very first time performing in New Zealand’s largest theatre and what an awesome show it was. The crowd was amazing, the atmosphere electric and we just rode the laughter from beginning to the end. We had cut a scene from the show after our premier in Wellington the week before because the show was two hours long. But despite that the show in Auckland was nearly two hours again. We are truly blessed to have such loyal and enthusiastic fans. Thank you all. Without your support we couldn’t do what we do. In this day and age where entertainment is delivered via computers and screens, it’s a privilege to stand up in front of a live crowd and deliver. Love you all!!! Look out for the return of Funny Chokers to Mangere in August and Takapuna in November.

Funny Chokers is… well, funny!

Happy to report that our premier of Funny Chokers in our hometown of Wellington last night was a great success. Always a relief to get the first show out of the way and fitting that we should kick our Funny Chokers tour off with the love, support and blessings of our families, friends and loyal home fans who packed the Opera House. The show rocked from the first scene with Tala auditioning for Idol until Suavai (Elvis impersonator) brought the house and the lights down with with a grand stand finale at the end. In between the usual cast of characters such as Sam and Tony (the old men) Paul and Victor (the boys) Jonathan and Bryan (Island Time) feature and a new duo of Pati and Tom (body builders) are introduced. There’s also a scene in which a Samoan guy tries to explain to his Palagi girlfriend why Samoans are the way they are. We were shocked to come off the stage and find the show had gone for two hours although we were having such fun it seemed like half an hour. We thought we’d be lucky to have an hour and a half long show but hadn’t factored into our calculations the laughter and the usual improvising that we do. We’re both thrilled that as a creative team we continue to challenge and push each other and we can now confirm that Funny Chokers (judging by last night’s crowd) is as good - if not better - than anything we’ve done before. Bring on the rest of the 2012 tour!

Funny Chokers rehearsals

One week before the premier of Funny Chokers and we’re both very happy with where we’re at in terms of putting the show together. I guess nine years of working together has taught us to trust our own and each other’s writing instincts. Nice to find a lot of new material. Writing a show’s a bit like mining for gold. Sometimes you have to sift through a lot of mud to find the valuable stuff and we’re happy to say that we’ve struck a rich vein of comedy gold. We’re both quietly confident that this will be as good if not better than anything we’ve done before, and while nerves will always keep us on our toes, we’re looking forward delivering the goods on stage. It should be a goody. Nek minnit! Lol!

Final Greatest Hits show this Saturday

We’re performing our Greatest Hits this Saturday at 6pm at the Otara Recreation Centre. The show starts at 6pm and door sales are available. Adults are $15 each and children $5 each. We are doing this as a fundraiser for the village of Fusi where our fathers are from. Don’t miss the chance to see Greatest Hits for one more time.
