However it wasnt until Ete went to perform his "Laughing with Samoans" show and invited Tofiga to open and MC for him that this unique combination was forged. With Ete one of the elder statesmen of Pacific Island comedy and Tofiga one of it's brightest young stars, the Laughing Samoans appeal to people of all ages. Their comedy refreshingly, is always clean and showcases their musical and acting talents.
He was one of the first Pacific Islanders to attend the New Zealand Drama School (1983/84) and was a founding member of New Zealand's first Pacific Island theatre group formed in 1981 called Taotahi. Taotahi staged the first full length Pacific Island play ever performed in New Zealand called "Le Matau" (1984) in which Ete played the lead role for which he was named by The Dominion's theatre critics as the most promising male performer of the year. He wrote and performed the first solo show by a Pacific Islander in New Zealand (The Depot, 1987) called The Johnny Smith Myth and has extensive stage, film, television and radio experience. A member of the EFKS Church in Wellington, this has contributed to enhancing the talents of Tofiga from leading the church choir, appearing on our screens (tagata pasefika, music videos, TV ad's), working with youth at risk, and taking on Entertainment full-time this year. For many years he has entertained family and church members but now he is taking his comedy to the world. Tofiga is one of the most sought after MC's who will add spice that not even the Spice Girls could achieve (and he's a better dancer too!!) A faithful and loyal Wellingtonian, who debut in a stand up comedy show called "Laughing with Samoans" which first came out as part of the Wellington Fringe Festival 2003 and has become a huge success not only in Wellington but around New Zealand Tofiga's passion is working and inspiring our young Pacific people, and as a young man who had to overcome his own barriers to achieve his dream, he will re-affirm that each and every one of you will play an important role in making a difference to the lives of our Pacific peoples.
